According to the US Coast Guard, one man was killed and 10 was taken to hospitals in the area. Two of the victims had to be transferred to hospitals for treatment due to the severity of their injuries.
Emergency staff call the boat’s basket a mass event for victims due to the severity of injuries and because the number of wounded people exceeds available resources for reaction.
The injured were trosed on the seminole boat ramp and taken to various hospitals for additional treatment.
A witness said they had seen a boat straight to the ferry moments before the crash, giving passengers a little time to prepare for the impact.
“I fell between two places. I couldn’t get up and everything I saw were people who just scream and run and try to react to what happened,” says Brenda Alvarez, a ferry passenger. “My first thing was to make sure my kids were fine and my husband was fine. We just did what we could to help people who were lighter than we do.”
Officials say several people have fallen into the water after the impact.
Shortly after the crash, emergency staff searched the water and found all victims.

What they say
FWC officials said both ships were secured as evidence.
FWC says Jeffrey Knight was driving a recreation boat when she crashed, and Dennis Kimmer was driving the ferry. One of the victims on board the ferry was identified as Palm Harbor, Jose Castro, 41, according to employees.
Investigators have not provided any more information to passengers who were aboard the recreation boat, as well as the identity of other victims who were injured. They also did not say whether the charges would be filed.
FWC says they “hope to have a more speedy list soon, but this is the most accurate information” currently available.
Mayor of Clearuros Bruce Rector took on social media shortly after the crash, publishing: “We all pray for those involved in the incident by boat, south of the memorial causing tonight. We are also grateful for our first reacting of the Clairwater and Pinelas, the coast Quick to save life and investigate the incident. “
In a statement, the FWC shared “the Commission for Fish and Wildlife Protection in Florida expands our heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of the victim, as well as all injured and affected by this tragic incident.”
Investigation
Clearwater police say one of the ferry crew members may have helped save life on Sunday night.
“A lot of challenging work, at night, in the water, trying to find out which we are the most and where you are coming from and what boat you are connected to,” said Clearwater Fire Rescue Ems Tony Tedesco.
FWC says it was a dynamic scene with multiple places and that the investigation will take time.
“We use a lot of Lidar equipment and a bunch of laser -guided things to map really damage and get things together,” said Matthew Dallarosa of FWC. “This will sometimes slow down these investigations. It seems that it should be quite easy to put together with something else, but it really is not as simple as put things on each other.”
“You really need to understand what existed. If someone has a boat, unfortunately, it is attacked on docks and things. This happens, so every scratch may be valid or may not be based on the accident that has happened and how to confirm these things to it?” Dallarose finished.
FWC investigators say they were talking to the leader of the recreation boat on Sunday night. He is said to have been cooperative and performed a voluntary breathing test that returned with reading zero.
FWC interrogates witnesses and boats while the investigation continues.
Although the recreation boat left the site of the crash, FWC says it is not clear if the crash will be investigated as a hit and running at this point.
The staff of the critical incidents of the FWC are sending the area of surveillance and potential witnesses, and the coastal security of the United States is conducting a simultaneous investigation into the commercial passenger ship.
