A new GO2AFrica ranking has revealed the top 15 most crowded tourist destinations in the world – where the number of visitors dramatically exceeds the local population.

As travel is restored around the world, tourists congestion raises questions about the sustainability, local impact and the delicate balance between welcome and fatigue.
To find out which countries have made this list, Go2africa compares the total number of visitors to each country annually with its population data, analyzing tourism data from national tourist councils and reports.
Their discoveries revealed that the Vatican city – the smallest country in the world, both from the area and from the population – tops the list. Despite the population of this sovereign urban state in Rome, Italy is only 882 inhabitants, the spiritual heart of Catholicism welcomed the amazing 6.8 million tourists a year.
This equals the stunning 7,709.75 visitors for every local clear reflection of the vast religious and historical equality of the urban state.

Nestled in the Pyrenees between France and Spain, the Mountain Principality ranks second.
Most famous for their ski resorts and non-tax shopping, this southwestern European country sees about 9.6 million tourists every year. With a population of just under 82,000, this means that there are 117.16 tourists for each resident.
Another European mountain microstat, San Marino, is in third place. With only 33,581 residents attracts 2 million tourists a year.
Known for its medieval architecture and picturesque views of the hill, San Marino hosts 59.56 tourists of local tourists.
