Colon cancer coefficient is increasing, especially for young adults, so it is more important than ever to prioritize food food. Gastroenterologist Joseph Salhab, a doctor of medicine, provides advice on his millions of followers on social media for the best food and lifestyle elections to make for optimal health and digestion of the bowel.
He recently took on Instagram and shared some of his favorite food recommendations to mitigate the risk of colorectal cancer cancer.
“Remember that risk reduction is not the same as risk eliminating,” Salhab wrote in his Instagram post. “The diet never replaces medical therapy or evaluation, but it should always be discussed because we know that people with healthier diets have a less risk of chronic illness.”
We could not help but notice that the bigger part of his elections were healthy snacks that you could easily include in your routine. Here are some gastroenterologist snacks to help keep your bowel health under control.
Yogurt
Yogurt is not just the basis for delicious parfa. It provides sufficient benefits – from supporting bone health to heart health. And meta-analysis shows that higher consumption of yogurt is associated with a 7% reduced risk of colorectal cancer.

Citrus fruits
If you like to pack an orange in your bag for an easy breakfast option, you are lucky. Citrus fruits are one of the best opportunities for your gut health, thanks to their fiber and water content. Eating citrus fruits regularly can reduce the risk of cancer associated with the digestive and upper respiratory tract, the study shows.
Enjoy orange, grapefruit or curling as it is, add them to puree or embrace these fruits in a flower fruit salad.
Wooden nuts
Wood nuts, such as almonds, cashew and Brazil nuts, are full of protein, making them a satisfying breakfast. But this is not the only benefit they provide. For example, the gastroenterologist is forwarding studies showing how two servings of tree nuts a day can help for a lower risk of relapse for those with a shorter stage of colon cancer by 42%.
The food of the nuts for which it is healthy properties is worth keeping your closet stocked. Bake them with your favorite spices, all the spice of a gavrek or with a sesame-men’s glaze. For double bite, add sliced nuts to your yogurt for breakfast that your gut will thank you.
Apples
An apple a day can literally keep the doctor away. With heart healthy fiber, apples are equally tasty and nutritious with numerous studies supporting its nutrient density. A case control study showed that eating apples daily reduced the risk of colorectal cancer cancer by 47%. Pair with walnut oil or cheese for filling breakfast, loaded with protein and fiber.
Watermelon
Watermelon is proudly named as 92% of it is made up of water. Staying hydrated is super important for healthy digestion as things continue to move in the colon, so increasing the intake of water, as well as eating enough moisturizing fruits such as watermelon is key.
There is nothing like fresh watermelon on its own, but you can raise it even more by pouring a slice of mint-bazil dressing or with Varka crust and salt.
Salsa and guacamole
Tomatoes and avocados have been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer thanks to their fiber and antioxidant content. The best part for these fruits are healthy power houses is that they are the stars of some of our favorite downturns!
