Double circular intersections? Penndot launches ideas for road improvements in East Berlin near Hampton

During a public comment period, Penndot launched possible plans to improve multiple intersections along East Berlin Road in Reading Township.

Plans that focus separately on the intersections of Road East Berlin Road and Stoney Point Road, and then East Berlin Road and Peepytown Road, each has many possible improvements.

There are three possible alternatives for the intersection of East Berlin Road and Stone Road, ranging from approximately $ 9.9 million to $ 13.8 million:

Alternative 1: Design a roundabout at the existing intersection.

In the first alternative to Stoney Point Road, the proposal sees a roundabout placed at the existing place at the intersection.

Due to the change in the alignment required in this proposal, the plans appear to show that at least one home south of the intersection will be needed to facilitate this version of the proposal.

This proposal shows limited improvements at the intersection of Kimberly Lane.

Alternative 2: Design the intersections to the east and west of the existing intersection and adjust the Road Stoney Point.

In what seems to be one of the more complex proposals, the alternative 2 is known as the proposal “Double roundabout”.

This proposal will see Stoney Point Road, divided before and after the existing intersection, with the southern approach ending with a roundabout of Road East Berlin and the northern approach ending at a roundabout with Kimberly Lane and East Berlin Road.

The west roundabout was moved west to a small wooded area between the houses to avoid the impact on the houses observed in alternative 1.

Short roads ending in crops will provide access to existing Stoney Point Road homes.

Alternative 3: Design a roundabout west of the existing intersection and adjust the Road Stoney Point to the west.

In the third alternative for the intersection of Stoney Point Road, Penndot offers redirecting at the west intersection, along with improvements at the intersection of Kimberly Lane.

Short roads ending in Cul-DE-SACS will maintain access to homes that would be previously along the Stoney Point Road.

The alternative is known as the alternative “displaced circular motion”, as it would be seen that the road was redirected to the west, somewhat similar to alternative 2.

By providing the roundabout in the west, the proposal would have a less influence on existing homes, placing the roundabout in the space of existing trees, not require the demolition of a home, as seen in the first alternative.

There are four possible alternatives ranging from the intersection of East Berlin Road and Peepytown Road, ranging from an expected price of $ 1.4 million to $ 4.7 million.

Alternative 1: Design a roundabout at the existing intersection.

The first of the four alternatives at the intersection of Peepytown Road created a roundabout at the existing intersection.

Doing this, the Peepytown Road approach to the south will be adjusted to the east to provide a more right approach, with an alley connected to an existing alley nearby.

Alternative 2: Design a roundabout west of the existing intersection and cross the path of Peepytown.

The second proposal for the intersection of Peepytown Road will be seen “displaced a roundabout”, which will move all approaches to the intersection of the southwest from where they are currently encountered.

In this way, this alternative seems to show a less influence on the surrounding residential properties in the creation of a roundabout from the first alternative.

Alternative 3: Provide the existing intersection to the west, add the road 234 full lina and region region regions.

In less radical change in the intersection, the third alternative will see the intersection, which remains as a single braking sign from the path of Peepytown Road, but will bring the intersection west to improve the middle lines.

Alternative 4: Add route 234 right turn lane to the existing intersection and reach the vision distance.

In the most insignificant proposed revision of the intersection, an alternative 4 just suggests adding a right turn lane to East Berlin Road for movement, turning the Peepytown Road.

Currently, both plans are in the “alternative analysis phase”, according to Penndot. Construction is proposed to begin in 2027 and be completed by 2029.

The open house was set for Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Community Township Chitalishte along the South Firehouse alley in Hampton.

Online display of plans, as well as the period of public commentary on the plans, continues from May 1 to May 30, 2025. Pendot said that during the public commentary period the public was encouraged to answer any questions or concerns.
