Update (20:18): The News 5 realized that the 2-year-old shot was a boy and his brother may have been the goal of shooting Wednesday morning in Whistler.
“They are just carefree punk, who fired outside the residence in the bedroom window,” said Sheriff of Mobil Paul Burch. “So you know, there was no forced entry or attempt to enter the apartment.”
Birch believes the incident was about driving gang.
“We believe that they are all teenagers and, you know, to be fair, the goal was her teenage son, who participates in the band,” Birch said.
“And he was, you know, I’m sure the intended target of the shooting,” Birch continued.
No arrests have been made yet and the condition of the 2-year-old is unknown.
Birch said the boy had undergone surgery and was treated at the US trauma center.
He said the sheriff’s office would continue to prioritize the band’s activity.
“This will be a priority for our special operations ward. And a message to the band members is:” I dare to pull a gun on one of my boys, “Birch said.
“It may be the last thing you do,” he continued.
Update (15:00): Mobil County Sheriff Paul Burch held a press conference on Wednesday about the incident, which left a 2-year-old at the hospital with a firearm of the face.
According to Sheriff Burch, two shootings have happened “throwing a stone” from each other on Wednesday morning.
“We do not know if it is connected or not. But, you know, I do not believe in the coincidences. So we believe that this shooting is related to the band and it has been revenge for shooting on Vestava Street on June 1 with some other members of the gang and there were some back and forth,” the Sheriff said. “After shooting at 1 morning this morning there was a shooting on Vestava Street around 4am”
The shooting at 1 in the morning happened in St. Stevens Woods’ apartments, where the 2-year-old was shot.
Sheriff Birch said the investigators had collected evidence from both firing on Wednesday morning.
He also expressed his anger regarding the violence that happened in the county.
“These are teens, these are bands. And frankly, I would like to put them on the arena and let them kill the hell, because it will solve the problem,” Birch said. “So, but always innocent people are shot dead.” One thing that is a problem and we worked on it a little, we will be more aggressive about it. “
Birch also claims to the Price Police Department, claiming that they are ruining their citizens.
“A resident on Vestava Street, he heard a few rifles around 4:00 this morning and he says he has never seen a chick. And when we started because we are trying to collect a time line together, we checked with Pritchard. They don’t even have a phone call report. and that there is a relationship. “
Birch continued: “Let’s just say that there was a lot of powerlessness in the police station and they are there,” Birch said. “They ruin the citizens of this city.”
Update (10:10): Product Mayor Jimmy Gardner made a statement in Wednesday morning shooting, which injured 2 years of age.
Mayor Gardner began his statement by restoring the incident and acknowledging the difficult times of the family.
“The child has been taken to the hospital and is currently in a stable state. Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with the child and family during this unimaginably difficult time,” read some of the statement.
He continued, saying that there was a “disturbing model of violence” in the city.
This model, he said, “continues to affect our communities too often. The investigation continues actively and we are working with law enforcement to identify responsible,” said Mayor Gardner.
“Let me be clear: when the perpetrator is found, they must be persecuted to the most of the law.”
He finished his statement, saying he was angry and that these crimes should stop.
“We need to get together as a community in order to ask for better and work tirelessly to make our homes and streets more favorable for every child and every family. It has to stop,” he said.
