MSU offers Olympic Sports Arena, New Hotel, Housing, Campus Restaurants

East Lansing – Michigan State University offers to build an Olympic sports arena worth $ 150 million and partner with a developer to build a neighboring hotel, homes, restaurants and office space at the Trowbridge and Harrison Roads corner.

About 14 decares from now on a large forested area, directly south of the Center for Health and Recreation of Students under the construction of Harrison Road, will be destroyed for the Spartan Gateway neighborhood.

The plans discovered before the trustees session on Friday will transform the campus entrance near the US 127 and Trowbridge Road.

It also seems, as MSU employees plan to hire land to an entrepreneur under a long -term agreement in exchange for developments in addition to the arena, such as the hotel.

Trustees are expected to vote to approve the plans of their meeting on Friday.

In addition to the Olympic Sports Arena with 6,000 seats, which will host women’s volleyball, gymnastics and men’s wrestling, the site will include a hotel, homes, retail, restaurants, offices, parking and future academic or health development, according to the university’s documents.

The project is expected to be developed in three phases. Arena, hotel and parking will be completed first. The arena is expected to work by the end of 2027 with the hotel and parking until mid -2028.

Residential housing, office space and retail are expected to be opened in 2030. The future date of completion of healthcare or MSU academic facility is still determined.

The Olympic Sports Arena is expected to cost $ 150 million to the university. The rest of the Spartan Gateway District will be paid through a public private partnership with the developer, funding the hotel, homes, retail trade, office space and parking. No costs were discovered for these developments.

“This project will activate the entrance of the Trowbridge Road in a mixed -use campus campus that will create a unique experience for students, teachers, graduates and the community,” wrote an employee of the University Summary of the Projects Project. “The arena will fill the needs of the event with approximately 6,000 capacity of seats, which will provide space for MSU sports events, community events, playoffs and championships in Michigan in Michigan High School, concerts and other activities in the campus.”

Amber McCan University spokesman and Vice President for Strategic Infrastructure and Dan Bolman’s Strategic Infrastructure and Facilities immediately respond to the requests for comment on Monday morning.

MSU has issued a request for proposals in July, and employees said they had received interest from local and national developers. This list was narrowed to three developers at the end of last year, and since then MSU has identified a developer to start negotiations. The developer is not discovered by the university.

MSU athletic director Alan Haller had previously told the state magazine that he envisaged the sports arena to be a reusable space, which could also host the state finals in the number of sports at the Athletic Association of Michigan High School, as well as concerts and other events in the Lansing region.

The project summary noted that the development would require MSU “to define a long -term strategy for a hotel and Conference Center Kellogg”.

The Center for Health and Recreation for $ 200 million students, designed to replace IM West, is under construction and is expected to be open to students in May 2026.
