Having already indicated plastic pollutant in the world, Coca-Cola has faced new control after a study found that on the basis of the current trends, the annual use of the company’s plastic would exceed 9.1 billion pounds by 2030.
What happens?
The ocean that conducted the study has determined that if Coca-Cola has not significantly changed its practices, the use of plastic by 2030 will be 40% higher than in 2018 and 20% higher than 2023.
Oceana is expected to produce £ 9.1 billion, Oceana estimates that £ 1.3 billion will be in waterways and oceans every year.
The problem according to the ocean is Coca-Cola addiction to disposable plastic packaging.
“The future of Coca-Cola is currently bound, like an albatross around his neck, for disposable plastic,” said Matt Littlehon, Senior Vice President of the Ocean. “Disposable plastic is bad for oceans, human health and business. Recycling cannot solve the company’s plastic problem beyond control.
While Coca-Cola promised to increase the use of recycled plastic in its disposable package, Oceana said it was not enough, as it was not a bit to limit the flow of disposable waste.

“Disposable plastic bottles made with a recycling content can, as well as bottles made of pristine plastic-they still turn into sea pollution and harm the life of the ocean,” said Oceana Littlejoh.
Why are plastic waste important?
Plastic contamination, a large part of it from disposable packaging, penetrated the distant achievements of our planet, from the oceans to the Arctic to the top of the Everest Mountain, even inside our own bodies.
Although the full consequences of this widespread pollution are still unknown, we already have strong indications that the impact on our health, the supply of food and our ecosystem can be detrimental.
For example, researchers have found that microplasty prevents the ability of bees from pollinating plants, both by affecting the behavior of the pollinator and by literally clogging flowers. Without pollinants and pollination, agriculture becomes impossible and supplying human food will collapse.
In addition, although there is much to learn about the effects of microplastics on living organisms, a study using mice showed that microplasty in drinking water finds itself in the brain of animals, causing a cognitive decline similar to the effects of dementia.
What is done for plastic contamination?
Although there is no magical solution for plastic pollution, there are a number of steps that corporations and people can take to reduce the amount of plastic waste that end in the environment.
One solution, according to Oceana, is companies like Coca-Cola to accept reusable packaging. If Coca-Cola increased the use of reusable packaging from 10.2% in 2023 to 26.4% by 2030, it would be enough for Coca-Cola to “bend its plastic curve,” the ocean discovered.
With plastic reusable bottles capable of reusing up to 25 times and reusable glass bottles, the potential for reusable packaging to reduce the amount of disposable plastic waste is clear.
Despite Coca-Cola’s reputation as the largest plastic pollutant in the world, the company has taken some steps to limit its environmental impact. For example, Coca-Cola tried to limit the impact of the use of its water by striving to “return 100% of the total water used in each of more than 200 high-risk locations in the Coca-Cola system,” the December 2024 statement said.
However, given the continued and increasing plastic pollution of Coca-Cola, some critics have accused the company of washing green.
“The plastic use and status of Coca-Cola as one of the most famous plastic pollutants in the world is the responsibility for the future of the company, the oceans and the planet,” said Littlejohn on the ocean.
