When you go to the hospital for surgery or illness, you trust that medical staff will treat your condition well. But if your nurses and doctors do not wash your hands or give you the wrong medicine, your health can get worse and not better.
But some hospitals in the Kansas City area are better in these safety steps for patients from others.
Falls, infections after surgery, improper communication with staff and other preventable safety problems kill up to 250,000 people each year, according to the non -profit organization of Health Care Leapfrog Group.
In 2022, nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City care for the Covid-19 patient in ICU. Health monitoring group has given marks to hospitals in Kansas City for patient safety.
The organization, which has been giving letters for patients’ safety hospitals for more than 20 years, launched its spring 2025 at the Hospital for the Hospital at Leapfrog on May 1.
While the estimates range from A to F, the area of Kansas had no D or F facilities.
Twice a year, hospitals are evaluated in 32 areas grouped into five categories: infections; operation problems; safety problems; Error prevention practices; and levels of staff and education.

In addition, US News and World Report launches a ranking based on the presentation of hospitals in various medical specialties and general procedures.
Here are hospitals in the Kansas City region with the best and highest patient safety grades for the spring of 2025, according to the Leapfrog Group.
Most dangerous hospitals in the area of Kansas (c degrees)
Medical Center of University Health TrumanKansas City
The University Health Truman Medical Center received under the average estimates in 10 of the 32 categories, including three safety problems. Since 2022, the Hospital Hill institution has scored C in seven of eight estimates.
Overland Park Regional Medical Center
The Overland Park Regional Medical Center marked below average in nine sections, including the highest possible result in bed. The hospital received its first degree C in recent years in the fall of 2024 after four A in 2023 and 2022.
The University of Kansas HospitalKansas City, Kansas
The University of Kansas Hospital received under the average assessments in nine of the 29 indicators. The hospital refused to provide information on four errors. Ku Med received with degrees on the last three reports.
Liberty Hospital
Liberty Hospital received below average in seven areas, including three surgery problems. The hospital fell to C after three consecutive B class.
Medical Center on the top of Lee
The medical center at Lee’s top was below the average results in five of the 32 indicators, including the highest possible grade in the bed for care and the specially trained ICU doctors. The hospital received a degree C in the fall of 2024 after three consecutive degrees.
