A rumor that spread online in July 2025 claims that a person or a group of US President Donald Trump has asked to deport his wife Melania Trump, who was born in Slovenia and received US citizenship in July 2006. Many users shared this rumor with the inscription, “Donald Trump is now asked
For example, on July 15, a Tiktok user posted a short video (archived), promoting this hearing. This clip, receiving more than 3.1 million views and 629,000 likes, showed the inscription: “Donald Trump is now asked to deport his own wife. He says he will not do it because she is a family. It is fair or the US president is privileged?” The video did not specify who requested the deportation of Melania Trump.
This statement has also spread to other videos on Facebook, Instagram (Archived), Tiktok (Archived) and X (Archived), including some vaguely mentioned “viral petition with thousands of signatures”. Some of the videos included non -authentic images, as well as Deepfake and audio visualizations, generated by artificial intelligence, which are said to depict Donald Trump and Melania Trump, which correspond to the rumors.
According to the searches of Bing, Duckduckgo, Google and Yahoo, the hearing originates not with a government body, judge, another type of formal or legislative act, ordered or requested Trump to deport his wife, but instead refers to an online petition – just as some of the videos noted. As of July 18, this petition, launched on January 24th and hosted the Progressive Policy Moveon.org website, shows more than 12,700 signatures for 15,000. This purpose has increased in recent weeks, indicating that its organizer is constantly raising the desired number of signatures.
The title of the petition, the wrong spelling of Barron Trump’s name – the only child the president had with Melania Trump – read: “Deport Melania, Melania’s parents and Baron in the first round of deportations!” The Petition’s Organizer Present Severral Points, Including About the Trump Administration’s Genuine Desire to Denaturalize Some Citizens, Misleadingly Labeling Barron Trump WITH The Pejorati Claiming Trump -issured Documentation Or Legislation Requires a Person’s “Mother’s Mother” To Have Been Born in the Us Us
The petition also shows a refusal of responsibility at the top of the page reading:
Moveon volunteers reviewed this petition and determined that it either could not reflect the progressive values of Moveon members, or that Moveon members may disagree whether to support this petition. Moveon will not promote the petition beyond hosting on our site.
Snops contacted the White House’s press office and a first lady spokesman, asking if they wanted to share a statement in response to the existence of the petition, as well as the videos. A White House spokesman only replied, “This is obviously fake,” without further explaining what they call “fake”. We also contacted Moveon.org by email to ask why they show the rejection of the Petition and we will update this story if we receive additional information.
Trump’s focus on the disproves of some citizens
The first part of the petition correctly noted the purpose of the Trump administration to deport some naturalized citizens. On July 7, Miami Herald announced the details of the administration’s plans to prioritize a specific type of denoulation case:
The President has now directed the Ministry of Justice to strengthen his resources in major repression against naturalized citizens suspected of illegally obtaining his citizenship in the United States.
According to a recent note, the department plans to focus not only on persons who may have lied to a crime or did something illegal during the naturalization process. But authorities also plan to focus on others who may have committed a crime after they become citizens – generally an unverified legal border.
The Ministry of Justice’s website hosts this note, with the relevant section starting on page 3 under the title “Prioritization of Denalization”. In addition to persons who “illegally buy” naturalization or purchased naturalization by “concealing a substantial fact or by deliberate misconception”, the note also mentions a number of different types of cases and crimes that would meet the standard for prioritized denaturalization.
Barron Trump and the Mother’s Mother’s request
In the petition, they also claim that he again writes the name of Baron Trump, “”The baby on the anchor of Melania, Baron, should also be forced to leave because we know that his mother’s mother was born in another country. This is part of the criteria Trump creates. Your mother’s mother must have been born in the United States and we know that Melania’s mother was born elsewhere.“
This section was referred to as Barron Trump with the pejorative term “anchor baby”. Cambridge’s dictionary defines (archived) an anchor baby as a “offensive term for a baby that was born in a country that gives all babies born there to citizenship, but whose parents are not citizens and are not allowed to live there. This term is used Blame the parents of using a Baby As a way to get citizenship For yourself. “Using the petition of the term, which is said to have gave birth to Baron to help itself to obtain US citizenship.
As PBS reportedMelania Trump received her green card, creating her legal status as a permanent resident, in 2001-five years before Baron’s birth in March 2006. She became a citizen in July 2006, published earlier Verification of facts addresses an object related to this issue.
We did not find official documentation or legislation requiring the “mother of the mother of a person” to be born in the United States, issued by Trump, a January executive order aimed at some aspects of first-born citizenship-not mentioned-does not mention the “mother of the mother’s mother” who is to be born in the country. Instead, his administration’s proposed policy strives Deny citizenship to babies born of parents living in the US, illegal or temporary:
Sec. 2. Policy. (a) IT is the policy of the United States that no department or agency of the united states Government shall ISSUE DOCUMENTS Recognizing United States Citizenship, OR ACCEPT DOCUMENTS ISSUED BY Authorities purporting to recognize united states citizenship, to persons: (1) WHEN THAT PERSON’S MOTHER WAS UNLAWFULLY PRETATES and The Person’s FATHER WAS NOT A UNITED STATES Time of Said Person’s Birth, Or (2) Wen That The presence of the mother of man in the United States was legal, but temporarily, and the human father is not a citizen of the United States or a legitimate permanent resident during the birth of the mentioned person.
This policy, if the government accepted it before Barron’s birth, would not affect its automatic citizenship, fixed on the 14th amendment.
Regarding the subject of the petition for the born abroad Melania Trump parentsVictor and Amalia KnavsThe New York Times reported They have received US citizenship through the family immigration program, sometimes referred to as a “chain migration”, the policies that Donald Trump has repeatedly neglected.
For further reading, Snopes has previously reported the claim that Melania Trump has incorrectly arrived in the US on a visa for EB-1 “Einstein”.
