The cause of the crash is under investigation.
At that time, there were 230 passengers and 12 crew members, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said in a statement shared by X.
The aircraft, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, “traveled from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick” when he was “involved in an incident after take-off.”
“Of the passengers, 169 are Indian citizens, 53 are British citizens, there are seven Portuguese citizens and one Canadian citizen,” Wilson said.
He expressed a “deep grief for this event” on behalf of the airline.
The injured passengers were “taken from local authorities to the closest hospitals,” according to Wilson.
“We are actively working with the authorities on every effort to respond in emergencies,” he said. “A special team of care from Air India is on the way to Ahmedabad to provide additional support.”
