Adding to the annoyance of the Scadal, the men had valid work permits and hanging asylum requests, according to their lawyer Rezilusia Smith. “They are legal here,” she said. “A valid work permit is not even close to the expiration … Again, there are no criminal files – not here, not in Nicaragua.”

Skadina says he voted for Trump and still supports a lot of the former president’s policies, but this is not what he has signed. “The buyer’s remorse? I don’t know a little,” he said.
