There are increased calls to find a solution for two whales killer and 12 dolphins still housed in an abandoned marine park in France.
Marineland Antibes closed its doors in January 2025, citing French law that banned the use of dolphins and whales in live performances, according to the BBC. The output reports that these shows are responsible for attracting the bigger part of the visitors to the park.
Although the business has not operated since January, two Mother-Son Wiki, 23 and Kayho, 11 years old, and they are both born in captivity, they are still stored in reservoirs of the property, which is in trouble.

According to Tidebreakers, the frames are dated May 7th. He is shot from above and it seems that the water has tanks containing algae.
“Tragic, [Marineland Antibes is] It is still home to Wiki and Cago, the last 2 captivity orcs in France. The mother and the son remain trapped there, waiting for their fate in destroying tanks, “the organization wrote in a statement on Facebook.
“The abandoned park is also home to 12 dolphins, which are left to rot in algae infected, worsening tanks. The owners of Marinland also own Shouka, the Wikie sister and the KEIJO aunt, who lives in Seaworld San Diego,” the statement concludes.

In an additional statement shared with humans, the organization said that the fate of animals “requires global attention”.
“If these whales become ill, this affiliated pair-mother and her son are likely to be euthanized or succumbed to the deteriorating environment,” they said, noting that their Inauk tanker died after swallowing a small piece of metal, which caused severe inflammation and peritonitis. “
Although the organization is “firmly against the captive”, the statement emphasizes that “the only other viable option may be to move to a better facility equipped to take care of Orcas.”

“We run out of options. The most humid and sustainable solution to gradually eliminate the captivity of ORCA is the creation of shrines. Unfortunately, there are currently no operational shrines for Orcas. The best intermediate solution would be to build a temporary Holding tank for Wikie and Keijo until it is available.
“But time is running out – it’s an emergency and the reports suggest that euthanasia is now being considered seriously,” they say, adding: “After years of entertainment in society, they deserve a clean and safe environment in which they can experience their other years with dignity.”
Marinelands Antibes is responsible for animal care while they are still in the property. However, the French government will ultimately decide the fate of animals, according to the exit of the United Kingdom, Daily Mail.
The government did not approve a plan to send Wikie and Keijo to Japan, and the attempt to redirect them to Spain was denied by the Spanish government, according to the BBC.
As fears are increasing about the well -being of animals, the Whale Sanctuary non -profit project is updating the French government’s calls to review its proposal. The organization wants to build a whale sanctuary off the coast of Canada in the province of Nova Scotia.

In April, the organization confirmed its interest in redirecting the whales to a publication on their website.
“The project of the whale sanctuary again clarifies to all countries that we are ready to work with the French government, with Marineland Antibes, and with all the other organizations to bring Wikie and Keijo to the sanctuary where we are preparing in Nova Scotia,” it says.
They cited a report by the French General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Ecology, which defined their solution to the problem as “the most reliable innovative solution among the drafts of the sanctuary”.
Their sanctuary would allow whales to live in approximately 100 acres of ocean, which will be removed, according to the BBC.
WSP is reported to work with a team that helped build a similar sanctuary for Keiko, a famous whale that starred in the movie Free WillieS

In a statement shared with the BBC, the park managers said the animals “must” leave now “and emphasize” the exceptional urgency of transferring animals to an operational destination. “
